"Welcome pack"

We are delighted with your acceptance of our request to attend our hymeneals. In plain language, we are happy that you will share in our wedding celebrations. This then the email with the promised “more information”.

The celebration:
The celebrations will take place at the “Zehntscheune”, “Elsener Haus” also in Grevenbroich. It is next to the St. Stephanus Church where Heiko was baptised and to get to it, you will have to walk around the church on the left side. Please park your car in the big parking lot in front of the Church. Lunch will be in front of the “Zehntscheune”. The actual wedding celebration will start at 7 pm.

There is no formal dressing code, although most people use it as an excuse to make themselves look pretty. But, it remains more important that you get your ass there than it is to dress up that ass. If you have any further questions regarding the celebrations, please do not hesitate to contact us (elmienandheiko@gmail.com). You can also contact Heiko’s brother (best man) Karsten Braun at Karsten.Braun76@web.de.

Photos:
On the evening it would be difficult to be everywhere at once. In fact, it would be impossible. So we thought that if you bring your camera and take some pictures during the evening we can share in your experience of our wedding. We have set up a blog for that reason and also for you to view other people’s pictures of the wedding. So, once you have taken the pictures, you can mail the photos
elmienandheiko@gmail.com and we will publish it on the blog. The photos (and other details, including this email) can be viewed at www.elmienheiko.blogspot.com.

Sleeping arrangements:
For those of you that won’t go home with a local, there are various sleeping arrangements for the Saturday night, ranging from free to quite comfortable. We have arranged a limited amount of rooms at two hotels. We reserved 7 double rooms at Landhotel Lindenhof (
www.landhotel-lindenhof.com) untill 10 June 2008 for EUR 85 a night if we take all 7;as well as 10 double rooms for EUR 75 a night at Hotel Sonderfeld (www.hotel-sonderfeld.de/), directly at the railway station, untill 7 Juli 2008. When you make the booking, remember to tell them “Hochzeit Braun / du Plessis” to get the wedding price. You can also just tell Heiko in advance and he will make the booking for you.

On the cheaper side, there are also Hotel Elsen (www.hotel-elsen.de/), at EUR 68 maybe the cheapest option and conveniently close to the celebration venue; Hotel Haus Laach (www.hotel-haus-laach.de/index.html) or Hotel Alte Schmiede (www.hotel-alte-schmiede.net/).

On the free side, we can accommodate a few people on mattresses in the Kindergarten directly next to the celebration venue. Please make sure to let us know about any bookings you make.

If you make a weekend off it, it might be worth it to stay over in Köln for the Friday night and go for a cold one to the Früh (not too much, though, since you need to spare yourself for the Saturday) and sample some Rheinland cuisine. But that is just a suggestion.

Travelling arrangements:
By car
For those coming with an Auto, you can find the directions on maps.google.de (see the back for links to the maps).

By train
For those coming with the Zug, you need to go to Grevenbroich. It is a 30 minute train ride from Köln. You can book on the Deutsche Bahn website at
www.db.de . If you book the ticket so that there is at least one Saturday between the travels (i.e. Going on Friday and going back on Sunday), then you can travel on a saver price (about 25%-50% cheaper). The tickets are non-changeable / non-refundable, so it is important that you are sure of the dates. Also, it must be booked at least 3 days in advance. So, with a little bit of planning you can save those euros!

By plane
For those flying, low-cost Jumbos:
There are low cost airlines flying from London-Standsted to Cologne/Bonn (www.germanwings.de) and Frankfurt Hahn (www.ryanair.com). From Cologne/Bonn it is a 30 minute train ride to Grevenbroich. From Frankfurt Hahn it is a 2 hour bus ride to Cologne and a 30 minute train ride to Grevenbroich. Lufthansa also has the occasional special on Europe travel, so it is worth it to check them out (www.lufthansa.com). If you fly to Frankfurt, it is a two-three hour ride to Grevenbroich (depending on what train you take). The three hour IC ride goes via the Rheintal and is absolutely beautiful…

From Dingle / Kerry, there are flights between Kerry and Frankfurt Hahn (
www.ryanair.com).

If you need to apply for a visa, and you need an invitation letter, Heiko will gladly write you a letter.
